The prerequisite is that an electric car already exists or has been ordered and all three technologies are purchased together and new. Then a maximum of 9600 euros in subsidies will flow, and even up to 10,200 euros for bi-directional charging.
With a view to climate protection targets, Federal Transport Minister Wissing wants to promote the decentralised generation and use of energy in combination with e-mobility.
Details are not yet available, at least not on the homepage of the Federal Ministry of Transport. But Minister Volker Wissing (FDP) is already publicly stating how he intends to financially support electromobility from 26 September. As he explained in an interview with "Tagesschau24" on Saturday, a combined subsidy for photovoltaic system, storage and charging station is planned for private buildings - provided that all three components are purchased together and new and, in addition, an electric car is already available or at least bindingly ordered.
"The subsidy is made up of performance-based lump sums for the photovoltaic system and the battery storage as well as fixed lump sums for the charging station. In addition, an innovation bonus for bidirectional charging is possible," the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) states more specifically. The photovoltaic system must have at least five kilowatts of power, the battery storage must have at least five kilowatt hours of capacity and the charging point must have at least eleven kilowatts. The solar power generated and, if necessary, temporarily stored must be used primarily for charging an electric vehicle.
"The combination of these systems and their control via an energy management system that optimises the share of self-consumption, as provided for in the promotional programme, contributes to climate protection in the transport sector, improves grid stability and reduces dependence on electricity price fluctuations," KfW said. It added that the Federal Ministry of Transport had made a volume of up to EUR 500 million available for the new promotional offer, and that applications under the "Solar Power for Electric Cars (442)" programme could be submitted from 26 September 2023.
"The combined funding is new. It provides an incentive to use e-mobility and at the same time also to participate in decentralised energy generation," said Wissing. The maximum funding amount is 9600 euros. The amount can rise to 10,200 euros if the electric car is also used for bidirectional charging. According to Wissing, this form of decentralised energy production and use is needed to achieve climate protection goals.
Zolar has determined that around 31.5 percent of buyers of photovoltaic systems are also planning to purchase an electric car and another 15.6 percent already own one. With solar power from one's own roof, one can cover 100 kilometres for 2.88 euros - at the fast charging station this costs 9.69 euros, and with a petrol car at the filling station even about 14.50 euros. According to Sarah Müller, managing director of Zolar, Wissing's support plans are basically in the right place. "Nevertheless, it is important to fully exploit the existing solar potential for e-mobility, i.e. to also promote the purchase of an e-car in combination with a wallbox for those who already produce green electricity from their own roof but do not yet use it for their mobility," says Müller. "Only if we consistently switch to green energy in all areas can we drastically reduce CO2 emissions in the long term."
